Join Falasteen on Film and us to screen an exclusive preview screening and Midlands premiere of the highly anticipated Palestine '36 by Annemarie Jacir. The screening is the first part of this event, with a DJ Set at Pan-Pan afterwards from the incredible Mo'min Swaitat of Majazz Project, who also stars in the film.
We are absolutely ecstatic to host this special event in our beloved Brum at two independent venues in the vibrant, artistic heart of the city, Digbeth.
About the film:
In 1936, as the British Empire tightens its grip on Palestine, Yusuf is caught between his village home and his work in Jerusalem. Amidst an anti-colonial revolt and Jewish refugees fleeing persecution from Europe, all sides converge in a decisive moment for the entire region.
About the DJ set:
Join us at Pan-Pan post screening, to dive into the world of the Palestinian Sound Archive, which focuses on sampling, remixing and reissuing vintage Palestinian and Arab albums, shedding a new light on the richness and diversity of Palestinian and Arab cultural and musical heritage by curator, musician, actor, director and filmmaker Mo'min Swaitat.
Over several years, Swaitat amassed an extensive archive of cassettes and vinyl records from Palestine and beyond, spanning everything from field recordings of Bedouin weddings to revolutionary albums from the First and Second Intifadas, instrumental tracks, poetry, soul, folk songs and jazz. Many of these were acquired from a former record label in Swaitat’s hometown Jenin, in the north of the West Bank.
Tickets for Pan-Pan to be purchased directly from them.
Please get in touch with access@falasteenonfilm, if you'd like to come to the screening event but cannot afford it as we have a limited number of complementary tickets. Please also get in touch via this email address if you have any access needs we need to be made aware of/can help with.
There will be filming and photography at the event. Please let one of the volunteer team know if you'd rather not be filmed/photographed. "
