The screening will be followed by a dynamic Q&A with the film’s director, Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor. Best known as the acclaimed producer of Blue Story and Boxing Day, Joy now makes a visually bold and deeply moving directorial debut – a tender story of defiance that insists love can endure even in the most hostile places.
Please note: this screening will begin at the advertised time with no adverts or trailers.
After fleeing home, Nigerian migrant Isio (Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́) is sent to Hatchworth Removal Centre, where she hopes her asylum claim will receive a fair hearing. Clinging to the belief that playing by the rules and telling the truth about the homophobic persecution she has faced will secure her freedom, Isio places her faith in the system.
Her new roommate, the charismatic Farah (Ann Akinjirin), has no such illusions. Having watched the system fail time and again, Farah has long since lost faith in its promises.
Despite their opposing outlooks, Farah’s presence begins to bring colour and warmth to Isio’s world. As days turn into weeks, an unexpected bond blossoms into romance, giving both women a fragile sense of hope amid the uncertainty of detention. But with Isio’s case stuck in limbo and Farah’s appeals running out, the threat of forced separation looms ever closer.
Isio must decide whether to keep trusting a broken system that may tear them apart, or follow Farah into a risky plan that could cost them everything.
