Adorning the walls of this year's festival hub you will be able to see a small selection from Alan Fair's trove of film posters, a collection amassed over decades of cinephiliac searching.
After discovering arthouse cinema at the Arts Lab in 1970s Brum, the film bug led him to teaching roles in Sussex, Manchester and China – as well as programming film and photography here at MAC in the late 80s. Now retired, Alan leads a film study group for the University of the Third Age.
To celebrate this mini exhibition Alan will introduce one of the films represented on the walls, and an early favourite of his, Robert Aldrich's Hustle (1975). An accomplished neo-noir starring Catherine Deneuve as a high class ‘call girl’ and Burt Reynolds as her detective lover, this is a great chance to see a rare piece of almost experimental late Hollywood movie making.
