In this iconic slice of horror (adapted from a short story by Daphne du Maurier), the tranquility and quiet of Bodega Bay is turned upside down by a series of terrifying and unexplained bird attacks. At the films centre, is Melanie Daniels, an impulsive and enigmatic socialite who travels from San Francisco to the small town. However, this rural paradise is about to be disturbed in the most brutal and nihilistic of ways!
As the attacks rage on and the birds envelop their victims in hopeless doom, the eternal questions on everyone’s lips (including ours) is: ‘why?’ But while destructive and tormenting, the arrival of the birds also becomes a catalyst for emotional healing and self-discovery.
An affecting look at a community in a state of collapse, The Birds exposes what happens when nature turns malefic and the idyll goes up in flames as Hitchcock lifts the veil on how humanity responds when the familiarity of life is questioned by the unpredictable.
Rebecca will be delivering an introductory talk on the film with a Q and A session held after the screening.

Rebecca is a writer, speaker and creator/host of Talking Hitchcock , a podcast that explores the work and the world of her favourite director. The podcast covers deep dives on Hitchcock’s films as well as topic driven discussions on everything in the Hitchcockian universe. She has written about Hitchcock’s films both online and in print for many publications including Fangoria, Grim Journal , Hemlock Books and MovieJawn. She has spoken at HitchCon the biggest international Hitchcock conference of its kind and co-hosted a programme on BBC Radio. She curates and hosts Hitchcock screenings and festivals up and down the UK including most recently The Apartment Trilogy at Storyhouse Chester and a 70th Anniversary screening of Rear Window at Mockingbird Cinema.
